Amazon.com Review
Bestselling author and reknowned pastor Max Lucado offers to readers this introductory message to his new book Fearless. A Message from Max Lucado
Fear seems to be in the driver’s seat these days. People are troubled and anxious. Finances are tumbling, rockets are launching, and seemingly solid institutions are teetering. It's tough for folks to know where to turn.
Two years ago I began writing a new book entitled Fearless. Little did I know then what we'd be facing now, but God did. The book examines Jesus' statements about fear and encourages us to take heart in difficult times.
The antidote to the fear epidemic? Trust. If we trust God more, we can fear less. What a comforting promise.
-Max Lucado A Message from Thomas Nelson Publishers For the past few years we have seen a rejuvenated Max Lucado. Since taking a different step in his role at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX Max has devoted more of his time to writing and preaching, thus he is more in his "sweet spot." Fearless is a wonderful result of that by addressing the issue of Fear in our world, our community, and our personal lives. This year, he hosted a town hall on fear at his church and was able to receive questions from the attendees and readers on Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, and by phone. It was encouraging to see Max help them realize that that they are not alone and can fight fear with the help of God, their family, friends, and at church. With the growth of social media, our team has had the ability to dialogue with Max Lucado readers on a whole new level. It has been encouraging to hear their stories of overcoming fear whether it may be facing financial ruin, fighting a difficult relationship, going into a serious surgery, figuring out how to be calm and protecting their children, etc. It has helped our team recognize more than ever how important a message like Fearless is to everyday people. People are left inspired by Max Lucado. My hope is that someday you will be able to meet Max Lucado in person. He is as geniune of a person as he is in his books.
In 2010, it is Max's 25th Anniversary in publishing and he will working toward the goal of sponsoring 25,000 children through World Vision. His book "Outlive Your Life" will help capture the spirit of service that we as Christians must embrace just as the early church did in the book of Acts. We hope you will also be inspired by these words. Thank you Amazon and readers for your support of Max through the years.

Fearless March 13, 2010 Dana Strotheide (Colorado) I'll preface this review with a couple of caveats. First, I received this book for free from publisher Thomas Nelson. Second, I'm a bit new to religion in general. I wasn't raised anything and have only recently come to church. I'll not divulge my faith or personal beliefs here, but from what I've heard Lucado is more conservative and evangelical than I tend to be. I've tried to not let any of these factors temper my review.
Being fearless is something that I've always equated with the young kids I used to teach skiing to when I was in high school. Watching tiny three and four-year-olds barrel down a ski hill without regard to cracked heads, torn ACLs or aching muscles is the definition of fearless. Seeing as how they only have two or three feet maximum to fall, this lack of fear isn't too hard to imagine. However, most of us grow past three feet and even if we didn't the knowledge that we gain in life often comes at a price. Sometimes the adage that ignorance is bliss is all too true. It's hard to be fearless when you're farther than three feet from the ground and have a much better idea of what life's consequences. Lucado breaks the book up into chapters that all focus on various fears that people have in modern society. Fears of overwhelming challenges, violence, not mattering, and not protecting the kids, are some of the difficulties that Lucado expounds on.
In each chapter, Lucado illustrates the fear through personal anecdotes and stories of this type of fear manifesting in regular people's lives. He then pulls quotations, parables and psalms from the Bible to illustrate why people needn't be afraid of any of these calamities because God and Jesus are on their side.
Overall, I liked this book, but I have some reservations about it. I love the message: don't worry; just live your life and do what you can about your own actions. I think this is something that everyone, can or should be able to practice. We can't change everything in the world. We can't change other people actions or thoughts or practices, but we can take charge of our own thoughts and actions and practices, and create change in the world that way. What I don't like about this book is how heavy handed it is with God and the Bible. Now, I understand that is is a Christian book from a Christian publisher and for that audience, I think it's great. For me, it worked. For the rest of the population, I think they would be turned off by it, which is unfortunate because I really love the message. Granted, if you weren't a Christian, or someone who believed in God, you'd be unlikely to pick up this book to begin with, but I still wish the message were more accessible to everyone, faithful, agnostic and atheist.
Book that will change your living! March 12, 2010 Marcia Thrutchley Max Lucado contintues to write books of inspiration, guides to living in the Word for today. Excellent for group study and discussion.
Another fantastic Max Lucado book! March 4, 2010 H. H. Terry What if you lived your life by faith and not fear? Why is it that we fear anything and everything, even though deep down we know God has it all? Terrorism, the economy, when our children are away from us, layoffs, etc... things we can't control and yet we tend to forget that God can. True to his style, Max Lucado takes you through different reasons for our fears and how we can live without them with engaging stories, both from life and the bible.
I have always enjoyed the writings of Max Lucado. I still remember the first book I ever read of his, He Chose the Nails. His way of intertwining scripture truths with stories, some true, some fictional, in short to-the-point chapters makes this book hard to put down but easy to read. The message is clear...overcome your fears by letting Jesus take them for you! Almost every chapter spoke to me in a personal way. "Fear of not protecting your kids", "Fear of not mattering", "Fear of Getting out of my box", he covers it all and in the process, reminds me so gently that I don't have to bear the burden of fear. God is God, He's got it under control. I just have to trust.
I encourage you, whether you have read every Max Lucado book written or if you have never read one, pick this book up. It's a short book, as they always are, and you never feel as if you reading a "self-help" book. You feel like you are just reading an e-mail from a friend. You will be encouraged and challenged to let go of your fears.
Excellent read for a fearful world March 3, 2010 K. Gray (West Texas) This book is a great read for anybody because everybody has fears that they deal with. "Fearless" shows us that there is no reason to fear because our Father God has our backs in every situation. Max Lucado, one of my favorite Christian authors, reminds us that God has and will defeat all of our enemies, even death. So what is there really to fear if you are one of God's children?
Fear, we all have it. Overcome it February 28, 2010 Stephanie (VA) Fear, we all have it. In his latest book, Fearless, Mac Lucado helps bring our everyday fears to the surface. Encouraging readers to live a life full of faith, not fear. A life where trust is in God, and God alone.
Fearless spoke to some of the worries that I have on a daily basis. It was inspiring to read biblical teachings related to those worries/fears and hope for giving them to God. Each chapter made me dig deeper into my own life and how I deal with these fears. Being a Mom of young children the chapter that spoke to me the most was "My Child Is in Danger."
There is a discussion guide at the end of the book which helps readers to dive deeper into scripture. The guide can be utilized as a group or on your own, helping the reader to work through the ideas in the book. During these times when everything seems to be up in the air with jobs and housing, Fearless will help to bring hope and encouragement to anyone who reads it.
