Very Good June 13, 2010 Allan J. Treml (Chicago, USA) I was pleasantly surprised. This version of the Ten Commandments has much accuracy as well as good quality animation. Of course movies can't always perfect the reality of the written text of the Bible, even in cartoon form, but it is good enough to share with children and have good quality discussion with them. Good work.
Complete Story June 7, 2010 C. Carlin Very good movie with complete story of the Exodus. Animation is a bit different but my daughter loved it. It moves quickly through Moses childhood, but that is the best known part of the story. Personally, I don't think Christian Slater's voice works as Moses ... but it did not bother my family.
Excellent Presentation January 31, 2010 Franklin King (Orlando, FL USA) This portrayal of the Ten Commandments is concise and short compared to the movie of old, however, they were able to get all the necessary details in to make it enjoyable for adults as well as childen viewers. Overall, I would rate the movie a WELL DONE. :-)
Compare with "The Prince of Egypt" January 25, 2010 Kim Boykin (New York, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I teach a course on the Hebrew Scriptures to juniors at a Catholic prep school, and I use a lot of video clips in class and occasionally an entire movie. I tried out this movie this year, and it didn't go over very well. The animation reminded my students of a video game or a low-budget version of "Shrek," and it isn't as entertaining or as well written as "The Prince of Egypt," which my students adore. "The Ten Commandments" generally follows the biblical text more closely, but since one of our exercises in class is comparing videos with the actual biblical text, I don't mind when videos take artistic liberties.
While "Prince of Egypt" ends after the parting of the Red Sea, "The Ten Commandments" continues through the giving of the Ten Commandments to the end of the book of Exodus, including the introduction of Joshua and the death of Moses.
In my teaching, I'll continue to use "Prince of Egypt" to dramatize Moses's childhood and the Israelites' escape from Egypt, but then I'll use the end of "The Ten Commandments" to pick up where "Prince of Egypt" leaves off.
A great family movie December 29, 2009 Tried&True (Brandon, FL) My seven year old loved the Prince of Egypt and watched it over and over......So I looked every where for the sequel and this was the closest.. And although I loved the Prince of Egypt and prefer its animation by far, the Ten Commandments is more historically accurate. Even as an adult t.his movie helped me understand the biblical sequence of events. I highly recommend this movie for the whole family.
